Bluefin has reported that the millionth uninsured car has been seized on the roads of Great Britain by West Midlands’ police.

The Force could not have done it without any help. That is exactly why the West Midlands’ police is continuously utilizing ANPR technology (for those who do not know it, this abbreviation stands for automatic number plate recognition). It provided them tremendous help while cracking down on the drivers with uninsured vehicles. The West Midlands’ police reported an incredible average rate of seizure – one car per hour.

The Force was given the right to fine and stop all the uninsured vehicles back in 2005. Since then, the police across the United Kingdom have seized half a thousand vehicles a day (collectively).

However, according to rough estimations, now there are about 1.2 million cars without insurance can still be found on the Great Britain’s roads.

A spokesman for the Automobile Association underlined that the reason for that is quite simple. If a driver gets caught in a vehicle without special insurance he has to pay a fine of about £200. Sure enough, it is quite a sum. But in case a young driver decides to get premium car insurance, he will have to pay way more, up to £3,000. That explains the extremely high rate of offending and reoffending.
